About Us
For nearly 18 years, Sustainable Wellesley has been at the heart of our community—sparking conversations, inspiring action, and driving real change.
From our insightful newsletter to hands-on events—gardening workshops, EV test drives, composting kit handouts, candidate forums, expert talks on healthy land care, film screenings like Plastic People, doctors discussing children’s health, and builders and architects sharing ideas for more comfortable, efficient homes—we’re your trusted local resource and partner.

Thank you for being part of this movement to cut pollution, reduce emissions, and support policies that protect our town. Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier future for our children.

Our Mission
Simple solutions for a healthier Wellesley.

Sustainable Wellesley is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that engages residents, businesses and the Town of Wellesley to take sustainable actions to protect our climate; reduce pollution of air, land and water; preserve biodiversity; minimize waste; and ensure environmental justice.

Our Story
Sustainable Wellesley was founded in 2008 by Scott Bender, under the name of “The Power of One”. Over the years we have grown significantly, changed our name to Sustainable Wellesley, and created dozens of events and campaigns including; festivals, movie nights, lectures, workshops, panel discussions, campaigns, and outreach. We even took more than 100 locals to New York to stand for climate action!

Sustainable Wellesley is the parent group for Wellesley Green Schools, and very proud to be part of the fabric of this community.

Although Sustainable Wellesley is not part of the Wellesley Town government, we do partner with many Town departments on a variety of initiatives. As such, we rely totally on volunteers and donors.
